Beyond Aesthetics: The Performance of Cladcolour

Cladcolour expertly combines design and performance, without compromise, helping architects, developers and contractors to tick all the boxes when it comes to rainscreen cladding systems. While the large variety of colour options is of course the headline of Cladcolour’s launch, what is behind the aesthetic? Read on, as Paul Winwood, our Business Development Director, reveals all…

Cladcolour is about providing a façade panel solution that delivers on all areas, not just aesthetics. Architects and specifiers need to know that a building product will stand up to the test of time, satisfy demanding client briefs and meet the ever-evolving fire safety regulations for high-rise buildings.

Fire safety

With stringent fire safety regulations and the new Building Safety Act to follow, it’s essential that we are carefully considering and inspecting the fire ratings of products and materials being specified within the built environment – especially on high-rise buildings.

When you choose Cladcolour, you can have peace of mind knowing that it has an A1 classification according to BS EN 13501 – the highest level of fire performance. An A1 rated material is completely non-combustible and does not contribute to either fire growth or smoke production.

Durability

Durability is everything when it comes to specifying building materials, knowing that it will provide the same high levels of performance for years to come. This is particularly important when considering the application of exterior cladding, with the chosen products being exposed to rain, cold and UV rays for the lifetime of the building.

Split into two ranges, Cladcolour panels are manufactured from either fibre cement or high-density calcium silicate, with an expected service life in excess of 30 years. Both materials offer excellent durability, dimensional stability and low maintenance, being resistant to rot, moisture, UV radiation and other environmental factors.

But don’t just take our word for it. The whole Cladcolour range is fully certified to the KIWA BDA Agrément, a certification process designed to underpin the safety and fitness of purpose of products supplied to the UK construction industry.

Lead times

When it comes to production, we do things slightly differently at Benx. While Cladcolour is still cut from a “master sheet”, it isn’t primarily finished and coated until after it has been cut and drilled to a project’s bespoke requirements. As well as significantly reducing the wastage of the finished product, this allows us greater flexibility of the base panel and coating, and in turn means we can offer shorter lead times to customers.

Finished in the UK, at our factory in Newcastle-under-Lyme, your Cladcolour decorative cladding panels are never too far away.

Safewall

One of the key take-aways that came out of the infamous Hackitt review, and indeed one of the reasons behind the introduction of the Building Safety Act, was the fragmentation around building product specification.

When you choose Cladcolour, you can opt for the “one stop shop” Safewall system. Safewall makes it easier for architects to take a system approach, eliminating the need to ‘mix and match’ specifications from separate components. Instead, it simplifies the process, with all key drawings, certifications and test data from a single source and comprising key components, from sheathing boards to insulation and decorative finishes – including Cladcolour.

With Cladcolour, we aim to prove that safety and durability don’t have to come at the expense of striking building design. Interested in learning more? Visit our Cladcolour page to download the brochure.
