Brickdale House

Nestled in the heart of Stevenage town centre on Swingate, Brickdale House represents a standout addition to the ongoing regeneration of the area. As part of Stevenage’s broader urban renewal programme, a multi-phase drive to modernise residential offerings and boost town-centre living, the project delivers high-quality, contemporary apartments that balance aesthetic impact with performance and durability.

The transformation sees a formerly underutilised site reimagined into a modern residential building that supports new urban living just minutes from Stevenage’s mainline railway station, a key asset for local inhabitants and investors alike.

Client Challenge

Quba and GPF Lewis were appointed to deliver a high-end residential scheme with several critical performance and design requirements:

  • Durability & Weather Protection: The façade needed long-term resilience against UK weather conditions while maintaining clean, modern lines.
  • Thermal Performance: Given rising energy regulations and resident expectations, the envelope required high-performance thermal efficiency.
  • Acoustics: Central urban living demanded façade systems that helped mitigate street noise for internal comfort.
  • Aesthetics & Urban Integration: The design had to reflect contemporary taste and elevate the visual identity of the locale in a rapidly evolving town centre.

Benx Solution

To meet these overlapping demands, Benx supplied a tailored façade strategy centred on Wall System 1 and Wall System 2:

  • Wall System 1 was deployed across key elevations to create a sleek, modern finish with robust thermal and moisture resistance.
  • Wall System 2 complemented this with enhanced acoustic dampening and integration points for balcony fixtures and glazing interfaces.

These systems were selected for their synergy with Create Architects’ design intent and Quba’s build-time efficiencies, allowing a visually consistent façade with precision installation and performance benefits.

The result is a bold, crisp exterior with subtle depth and contrast, as seen in the photographic captures below. The combination of light and neutral paneling gives the structure a refined yet dynamic street presence.

Outcomes & Performance Highlights

  • Aesthetic Impact
The completed façade underscores modern architectural trends — clean lines, balanced proportions, and carefully considered accents. The expressive interplay of neutral tones enhances the building’s street presence and adds vibrancy to this part of Stevenage.
  • Thermal & Environmental Efficiency
Benx Wall Systems contribute to improved thermal performance, supporting resident comfort and aligning with current regulatory expectations for building envelopes.
  • Acoustic Comfort
The specified solutions assist with urban noise attenuation, elevating internal living conditions in a town-centre context.
  • Robustness & Weather Resistance
The installed façade systems deliver long-term resilience against moisture ingress and weathering — crucial for longevity in the UK climate.
  • Urban Regeneration Contribution
Brickdale House now stands as a modern residential asset within Stevenage’s strategic regeneration framework, enhancing town-centre density and accessibility to transport, retail, and leisure amenities.
